Wichita State's Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in education and behavioral studies provides a comprehensive educational experience for aspiring scholars. This innovative program offers flexible delivery options and adaptable curriculum. Students can meet their unique needs and interests as they develop skills and knowledge of highly competent and committed professionals in their specialty area.

Two tracks are available to students, depending on their educational goals:

  • Educational Psychology

Applied learning at Wichita State

At Wichita State, applied learning is everything. In fact, every degree we offer has a guaranteed applied learning or research experience built right into it equipping you with the relevant skills and experience to make you workforce ready before graduation.

Admission to the program

Basic admission requirements include:

  • Master's degree with a 3.0 minimum GPA in any field for the Educational Psychology track or Counseling from a CACREP-accredited program for the Clinical Mental Health Counselor Education track
  • Current resume or CV of educational and professional experience
  • Sample of academic writing
  • Two letters of recommendation from professional references who can speak to the applicant's background and potential success in the doctoral program
  • Statement of professional goals
  • Optional interview

Curriculum

The program includes a common core featuring courses in advanced research design, program evaluation, and higher education as well as the required dissertation.

Students then choose a program concentration.

  • Clinical Mental Health Counselor Education: Foster resilience and productivity as a mental health care practitioner. Address the multifaceted challenges of education and mental health in diverse settings.
  • Educational Psychology: Allows students to shape learning environments that work for students and teachers. Prepares industry leaders for integrating practical state-of-the-art education, training, and motivation strategies within their organizations

Students have the opportunity to transfer in some prior master- or doctoral-level credits and should consult with program faculty for details.
